Mystery Car #43: Revealed

Mystery Car #43 was offered on eBay1 for $40,000. It is a nice looking 1969 Alpine A110 Dinalpin.
A110’s were built at the Renault plant in France, but the design was also contracted out to firms in Bulgaria, Brazil, and Mexico. This Dinalpin was one of the 500 or so cars built in Mexico between 1965 and 1974.2
According to Wikipedia, "the Alpine A110 was produced in Mexico under the name Dinalpin, from 1965 to 1974, by Diesel Nacional (DINA)." 3

The A110 was powered by a variety of engines. Which one you got depended on the country in which it was put together. "The DINALPIN was produced under licence in Mexico where around 300 956cc A110 Berlinettes were produced between 1964 and 1967 with about 200 1108cc variants following in the period to 1972." 3 As you can see in the pictures, the engine was located in the rear of the car. (I must admit that rear-engined cars have always fascinated me. But to date, I have never owned one.) That's not a very large four cylinder engine, but certain variants of the French produced 1.6 liter rally engine were able to muster 138 hp and 130 mph!3 Not bad for a twin carbureted four.
